Release of the 2019 Trafficking in Persons Report
On June 20, the U.S. Department of State released the 2019 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. The report calls on governments to respond to all forms of human trafficking with the most comprehensive and effective measures possible. As noted in the report, the United States recognizes the Government of Morocco’s proactive steps to make significant efforts to combat TIP, including the decision by the Moroccan Head of Government Saad Eddine El Othmani on May 23 to establish a National Commission on Trafficking in Persons, as recommended in the report.
As required by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, the TIP Report assesses governments around the world on their efforts to combat human trafficking. The 19th annual TIP Report includes assessments of 187 countries and territories, including the United States. The report stresses the need for a balanced response that challenges the presumption that human trafficking requires movement or some cross-border element.
