Boeing Community Day Awards Ceremony Remarks
Friday November 10, 2023
Casablanca Mohammed V Airport
As Salamu Aleikum! Minister of Mezzour, Governor Chater, Mr. Addou, President Cheikh, and Ms. Cronie, thank you for organizing this wonderful event and thank you for inviting me.
I am delighted to be with all of you today to celebrate the incredible strides Morocco is making in the field of aerospace under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Morocco is already famous for its vibrant culture, its spectacular landscape, its delicious cuisine, and its successful men’s and women’s national football teams.
But Morocco is also making its mark in aerospace. Today, every Boeing aircraft produced today has a component made here in Morocco.
And because of you — the future scientists, engineers, and dreamers in this room, Morocco’s aerospace sector will literally reach new heights.
I am excited about the potential that lies in each and every one of you. I encourage you to be curious and dream big.
Imagine yourself designing the next generation of green, climate-friendly aircraft; or perhaps controlling a spacecraft as it journeys between the stars; or even being an astronaut or test pilot. Go as far as your imagination will take you.
And as you do, I want you to know that the United States and our premier aerospace companies like Boeing are here as your partners.
Morocco is America’s oldest friend and our relationship is one that we cherish. When Sultan Muhammad III recognized the United States, a ship voyage between our countries would have taken at least six weeks. Today, that journey takes just six hours. And thanks to the extraordinary leadership of Mr. Addou, the friendship between Morocco and America will only grow stronger as Royal Air Maroc increases its flights to the United States.
I have to confess that I am a little envious of you for two reasons. First, you are growing up at such an exciting time. You have wise and progressive leadership here in Morocco. Extraordinary tranformation is happening all around you. And through your innovation, you will have the opportunity to solve some of the world’s most difficult challenges.
The other reason I am envious is that I was not able to participate in this morning’s airplane design competition. So, I thought I would have my own competition for three paper airplanes I made from different designs this morning. Two are based on designs from YouTube, and the third is my own design I came up with when I was your age.
I hope you have enjoyed your day.
